“Journalism is the first rough draft of history,” says Philip Graham.
News writing informs and entertains readers and listeners. While the structure of news stories has changed over time, the overall purpose remains the same. News writings give citizens information about events happening both in their communities and worldwide and therefore play an essential role in shaping their viewpoints and general ideas. News wrongly know what is happening in a foreign country if we travel we want to buy a specific product. We can understand what is happening in a foreign country without traveling or developing an opinion about a public figure without meeting the person. Likewise, news writings allow us to stay up-to-date on world events. We should care about writing news because, without it, we might not know what’s happening in our communities or even the world.
Good news writing begins with good, accurate reporting. Journalists perform a public service for citizens by presenting truthful facts in honest, straightforward articles.
Without news writing, the world falls to ignorance. News from a local area is often essential to advise people in a locality about activities that may impact a community. This can allow a community to engage in decision-making processes in a community. For instance, if the local community reports a dangerous road or accident hotspot reporting, these can be later used as evidence to lobby for funding to fix a problem. Demand for writers is high because readers want to know more about the world around them. Writers provide a different perspective from journalists, who are often focused on breaking news and reporting what’s happening at a specific moment. As readers become more interested in understanding why things happen, writers can provide that context.
News is that part of communication that keeps us informed of the changing events, issues, and characters in the world outside. Though it may be interesting or even entertaining, the superior value of news is as a utility to empower the informed. The purpose of news writing is thus to provide citizens with the enlightenment they need to make the best possible decisions about their lives, communities, societies, and governments. On this note, news writing is a critical facet we must foresee in this era of technological advancement.
